Edgy Holiday Outfits: Part 1

Happy best-time-of-the-year, y’all!

Starting this week, I’ll be posting a different, unorthodox holiday outfit — plus their purchase details — every Monday for the next handful of weeks. I love the Christmas season, but my style is a lot more muted than the bright reds and greens and metallics that can come with and sometimes overwhelm holiday dress. I also like unexpected touches that make an ordinary outfit more unique, and bright pops of lip color, faux leather and suede details, and sultry holiday crop tops will all be making appearances in my seasonal attires of choice.

Whether you’re seeking a getup for your office holiday party, a family gathering, or Christmas Eve turkey dinner, these’ll be sure to make you feel festive, sassy, and fashionable. And they won’t break the bank. That’s key.

This look is a fun Christmastime take on wrap skirts, which are huge right now. I found this one on sale from a local boutique, Milk and Honey, and I knew I needed to try it out, though I wasn’t entirely sure how I’d style it when I hit purchase online. I like it because it comes with built-in shorts so that you never feel too risqué with that all-the-way-up-the-leg slit.

I tried a couple sweaters and long-sleeve shirts tucked in and front-tucked, but they just looked too bulky. I found this cropped turtleneck at Forever 21 a couple days later and knew it would be a perfect pair with the body-conscious wrap skirt. A big gold chain, Christmas-bow red lips, and loose, voluminous curls were obvious outfit necessities, and voila! A holiday look not for the shy or dare-avoiding was born.

(Oh! And I colored my hair you guys! It might not be super obvious, but I’ve been pretty bright blonde for as long as I can remember, regardless of my dirty-water blonde roots attempting to make their appearance for the last several years. I’m attempting a balayage look, where my actual hair color sort of bleeds into the brighter blonde naturally. What do you think?)
